Northampton County is the southern 35 miles of a 70 mile long stretch of the Delmarva Peninsula known as Virginia's Eastern Shore. "The Shore" as it is affectionately named, is cradled by the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay or what is known locally as Bayside and Seaside. The Seaside, in particular, contains the largest island wilderness chain on the U.S. Eastern Seaboard.

State Water Resources Plan open for public comment
The draft Virginia Water Resources Plan, the Commonwealth’s first comprehensive effort to incorporate information from locally developed water supply plans, is available for public review and comment through May 8, 2015. The plan is a compilation of the information from local and regional plans and includes an analysis of how future water demand may affect key water uses. Among the main components of the plan are an extensive look at surface water and groundwater sources, and an assessment of the capacity of these sources to meet the projected demand to 2040. AN ORDINANCE TO REPEAL AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED,

The purpose of this amendment is to repeal the implementation of the semi-annual collection of real estate taxes.

JOINT NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS ON A PROPOSED CHANGE OF A BOUNDARY LINE BETWEEN THE COUNTY OF NORTHAMPTON AND THE TOWN OF CHERITON
All interested parties please take notice that Northampton County (the “County”) and the Town of Cheriton (the “Town”) have expressed their intent to adopt an amended agreement changing the present boundary line between the County and the Town. This joint notice of public hearings is published pursuant to Section 15.2-3107 of the Code of Virginia by the direction of the Board of Supervisors of Northampton County and the Town Council of Cheriton.
The new corporate limits of the Town of Cheriton are proposed to also incorporate the entirety of the following properties, the acreage shown being the portion of the parcels presently outside the said corporate limits of the Town of Cheriton:
Tax Map 84C3-A-31 currently owned by Canonie Atlantic Co. and consisting of 0.17 acre, more or less.
66 ft. railroad right-of-way which consists of 5.00 acres, more or less.
Total acreage affected by this amended boundary line adjustment is 5.17 acres, more or less.

The Northampton County Planning Commission and the Northampton County Board of Supervisors will jointly hear public comments on the following revision to the Northampton County Code of Ordinances on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, commencing at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the County Administration Building, 16404 Courthouse Road, Eastville, Virginia:
Revise Section 159: Floodplain Management in the following areas:
(a) Provide a required statement on cumulative rise
(b) Modify the definition of “New Construction” to include a date of August 11, 1976 (the date of the first Flood Insurance Map issued to the County). This is a required correction which directly impacts flood insurance ratings.
(c) Addition of language relative to requirements of subdivision proposals
(d) Correct such other minor clerical and typographical errors as necessary

The Northampton County Planning Commission will conduct Work Sessions on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 7 p.m. & Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 7 p.m. in the Northampton County Administration Conference Room, 2nd Floor at 16404 Courthouse Road, Eastville, Virginia.
Northampton County is sponsoring two Public Informational Meetings with regard to the proposed revised Zoning Ordinance and Map. This will provide an informal opportunity for the public to learn about the proposed revised zoning ordinance, to ask questions of staff, and to view the proposed revised zoning map for the County. The Board of Supervisors is interested in receiving public comment and believes that these informational sessions will provide additional opportunities for the public to become familiar with this important document intended to encourage investment and job growth while protecting natural assets and property rights.

The Winter Hours Schedule will commence at the Northampton County Sanitary Landfill on Saturday, November 1, 2014 and run through February 28, 2015. That means that on Saturdays, the landfill’s operating hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
