The Mission of the Northampton County Department of EMS is to supplement the volunteer rescue squads with advanced life support providers who are able to reduce response time and deliver the highest quality emergency care to those in need. In addition, through leadership and goals facilitate cooperation, planning and implementation within and between the rescue squads and fire departments.

Emergency Management
The Department of Emergency Management (EM) coordinates efforts to ensure the County is able to mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from any type of natural or man-caused disaster. The County uses an all hazards approach to emergency preparedness, which means planning efforts consider all types of natural and man-caused disasters that could occur in the County.
911 Communications (Eastern Shore of Virginia)
The Eastern Shore of Virginia 9-1-1 Communications Center is the public emergency answering point for the Counties of Accomack and Northampton. All 9-1-1calls are received by the ESVA911 Communications Center. Police calls are transferred to local Sheriff's Offices or the Virginia State Police for handling and dispatching. Fire and emergency medical services calls are handled and dispatched directly to fire and EMS agencies by the staff of the Eastern Shore of Virginia 9-1-1 Communications Center.
Volunteer Fire & EMS Services
The Fire and EMS services of Northampton County are primarily provided by a dedicated group of volunteers, supplemented by career EMS employees. There are three (3) volunteer fire stations, two (2) combination fire & EMS stations and one (1) EMS station located in the County. A listing of these companies can be found on the left under the tab titled, “Fire & EMS Stations”.
The Director of Emergency Medical Services act as a liaison between the volunteer fire and EMS agencies and County government, also serving on regional committees/groups to further emergency services within the region and County.
