LOVE works Mural

Let me just start by saying Northampton County residents have been responding to the coronavirus crisis with the utmost compassion and care that is the cornerstone of our community. Thanks to our collective efforts, Northampton County doesn’t have any cases of the coronavirus. So keep up the hand washing and following the CDC guidelines as we maneuver through these curious times. We hope that you and yours stay healthy.

Below you'll find a list of links I’ve been collecting for kids and adults to explore. Several years ago, I homeschooled my two boys for about three years when they were in elementary and some of middle school. We did a lot of hands-on learning and found many useful online learning websites and links to round out our lessons. For those parents who have been thrown into the homeschool role, please be gentle with yourselves and your children. Children are naturally curious and eager to learn when something sparks their interest. Try to follow their lead. I promise you, if you let them be bored they will surprise you with amazing creativity.

The schools are navigating ways to continue teaching and delivering lessons. Pick up the packets when you pick up the meals. For more information, please see the NCPS K-12 Grab and Go Meal Program. Email or phone their teachers who are ready to help. Also, our awesome teachers are offering up daily activities online on their Facebook pages. Truly fun stuff for everyone to try.

The nice thing about home learning is it will get done and you can do it when it feels right. You’ll find that younger students really only need about 1-2 hours of focused learning, older children about 2-3 hours and High School students about 3-4 hours.

Get outside. Sunshine is great for health and killing germs. See our page Free Recreation in Northampton County for a list of parks and outdoor places to practice social distancing.

Gardening is also a great activity. Try container gardens if your don't have space.

For the most up to date information check our Coronavirus COVID-19 page or follow us on Facebook.

Here is the list I have compiled. Some of these resources are great for life-long learners too! I'm sure there are plenty more. It's a World Wide Web after all.

Enjoy!  Jean Flynn Website Content Coordinator Northampton County, VA
