Planning & Zoning Department

The Planning and Zoning Department administers the County's land use regulations. Department staff perform zoning and development review and serve as the first contact for developers and landowners who are considering new development or changes to existing development. Most importantly, the Planning and Zoning staff work alongside the community's citizens to create the long range goals, plans and strategies that shape the future of Northampton County.

GOALS

  1. Continue to expand upon GIS capability/functionality, particularly analytical features and investigate applicability to emergency management
  2. Ensure that the county's land use documents promote a safe, attractive and harmonious living
    environment for all its citizens
  3. Evaluate staffing requirements in view of current demand and demographic projections to provide efficient and timely service to residents and property owners
  4. Streamline permitting processes to the extent possible while adequately fulfilling
    state regulatory mandates.

Public Notice


The Northampton County Planning Commission will meet on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Chambers located at 16404 Courthouse Road in Eastville, Va., for the purpose of conducting public hearings on the following matters.

A. Special Use Permit 2015-10: Kiptopeke Villas, LLC has applied to operate a 200 square foot retail area inside of an approved restaurant. The use is identified as Other retail establishment, less than 2,500 sq. ft. (NCC 10/21/2009, Appendix A, Category 3: Commercial Uses, #72). The property containing 1.52 acres of land, is described as Tax Map 112, double circle A, parcel 69, is zoned H, Hamlet, and located in Kiptopeke.

B. Special Use Permit 2015-11: Kiptopeke Villas, LLC has applied to operate 2 Food Trucks not to exceed 200 square feet each and is identified in the Northampton Code as a Restaurant, including waterfront service, less than 2,500 sq. ft., no drive-thru service (NCC 10/21/2009, Appendix A, Category 3: Commercial Uses, #83). The property containing 1.52 acres of land, is described as Tax Map 112, double circle A, parcel 69, is zoned H, Hamlet, and located in Kiptopeke.

The Northampton County Board of Supervisors will also conduct public hearings on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Chambers.
The application will be on file and open to public inspection in the office of the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors and in the Development Department located at 16404 Courthouse Road, Eastville, VA. Anyone wishing to comment on the above item is invited to attend the meetings and make their comments known. Written comments can be submitted to the Development Department P.O. Box 538, Eastville, VA 23347.

VIMS Analysis of Kings Creek Water and Watershed Runoff Samples

The Virginia Institute of Marine Science analysis of Kings Creek and its watershed has been completed. The study was funded in part by the Virginia Coastal Zone Management Program at the Department of Environmental Quality through a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management, under the Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972, as amended.
