How do I apply for a vacancy?

A separate Northampton County application is required for each announced vacancy by 5 p.m. on the deadline date. Position title and department location must be written on each application. Resumes cannot substitute the Northampton County Employment Application.

  • For positions requiring a DMV driving record, a good driving record will be required for employment.
  • A Social Security card and I-9 information (Employment Eligibility) will be required at time of employment

Job Opportunity: Summer Camp Counselor

Job Summary:
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to become part of our summer camp team. The ideal candidate must have experience working with children and possess the skills to create a positive and engaging atmosphere. Camp Counselors will be responsible for leading activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of campers, and fostering a supportive and fun environment. Candidates must demonstrate strong time management skills and the ability to report to scheduled shifts on time and ready to work.

Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise and engage with campers in various activities, ensuring their safety and enjoyment.
• Plan and implement daily schedules, including educational and/or recreational activities.
• Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages teamwork and personal growth.
• Provide guidance and support to campers, addressing any behavioral or emotional challenges.
• Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff members to ensure a cohesive camp experience.
• Manage group dynamics and utilize behavior management techniques when necessary.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of camp facilities and equipment.
• Participate in training sessions to enhance skills in childcare or related fields.
• Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and effective time management while working scheduled shifts.

Qualifications:
• Experience working with children in childcare, daycare, or similar settings.
• Ability to work well with children and create a positive, engaging environment.
• Must be able to work in various weather and working conditions.
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
• Must possess good time management skills and be dependable in reporting to scheduled shifts on time.
• Must be able to swim.

PART TIME GROUNDS MAINTENANCE WORKER

The Northampton County Department of Public Works is accepting applications for a part time grounds maintenance worker. The primary duty of this position will be to maintain the lawns of various county-owned facilities. Other general facilities maintenance duties may also be required. This is a year round part time position with up to 35 hours per week during the lawn care season and up to 20 hours per week during the off season. Experience operating zero-turn lawn mowers and towing trailers is a plus. A valid Virginia Driver’s license is required.

The Northampton County Department of Public Works is accepting applications for full time and part time custodians. The primary duties of these positions are to clean and maintain county-owned facilities. Applicants must be 18 years or older. Requires high school diploma, GED or vocational training and a valid Virginia Driver’s license.

Northampton County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for Two Full Time Communications Officers.  Job does require shift work, nights, weekends and some holidays.

Qualifications: over the age of 18 and have obtained high school diploma or GED. All full-time applicants are required to be certified prior to applying.
