How do I apply for a vacancy?

A separate Northampton County application is required for each announced vacancy by 5 p.m. on the deadline date. Position title and department location must be written on each application. Resumes cannot substitute the Northampton County Employment Application.

  • For positions requiring a DMV driving record, a good driving record will be required for employment.

9-1-1 Communications Officer


The Eastern Shore of Virginia 9-1-1 Commission is now accepting applications for 9-1-1 Communications Officers for a full time opening and part-time openings (including individuals potentially interested in future full-time advancement). The qualified applicant will work rotating shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays, as well as fill in shifts as needed. 9-1-1 Communications Officers are responsible for answering 9-1-1 calls, verifying the callback number and address of the emergency, determining the nature of the emergency and transferring the call or dispatching the appropriate emergency response unit as required, as well as other associated duties.

Minimum qualifications are a high school diploma or equivalent, including some experience in keyboarding or typing. Applicants must be able to speak clearly and distinctly, understand and follow detailed directions, act quickly and effectively during emergencies, and operate complex telecommunications equipment. Desirable qualifications include two years experience in law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical services, and/or public safety dispatching. Applicants selected for employment will be subject to a background investigation and drug screening.

Program Monitor


Northampton Co. Parks and Recreation department is currently accepting applications for a part-time program monitor position. The position will be responsible for regular attendance and punctuality of all Parks and Rec. programs, including opening and closing Parks & Rec. facilities during program practices and games, set up and break down of necessary equipment needed for programs. Minimum qualifications for this position are a high school diploma or equivalent, including some experience in athletics. Parks & Recreation Referee

Zoning Administrator 

Northampton County is accepting applications for a full-time Zoning Administrator. The essential function of the position is to enforce zoning ordinances and is responsible for knowledge and enforcement of County zoning ordinances, related inspections, and preparing reports.

  • Conducts inspections for compliance with County zoning ordinances; resolves non-compliance issues.
  • Serves as Subdivision Agent.
  • Requires Bachelor’s degree in public administration or a closely related field.
  • Requires valid Virginia Driver’s License and a Virginia Association of Zoning Officials’ certification.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential. 

The minimum salary for this position is $49, 295 plus benefits.

Deputy Director of the ESVA 9-1-1 Communications Center

 

The Eastern Shore of Virginia 9-1-1 Commission is seeking an experienced professional to serve as the Deputy Director of the ESVA 9-1-1 Communications Center. This newly created position will be responsible for assisting the Director in planning, managing, organizing, staffing, and directing the operations of the Center, as well as, coordinating assigned activities with other agencies. Field Services Engineer

 

Eastern Shore of Virginia Broadband Authority (ESVBA) has an opening for Field Services Engineer

Position Summary:

 

The primary responsibility of this position will be surveying new potential installations and construction and providing quotes to end-users based upon surveys. Performs various day-to-day functions associated with regional telecommunications operations. Additional responsibilities are assisting the field operations team with OSP functions such as cable locates, and emergency restoration activities.

Responsibilities:
• Assist the ESVBA Engineering Department with network construction activities and required Fiber Engineering paperwork including but not limited to: Route forms, Splice Engineering packages, Red Lines and As Builts.
• Provide preliminary site surveys for building entrance construction requirements and equipment space availability.
• Obtain accurate distances and necessary field data using a measuring wheel, range finder, pole stick or other outside plant engineering tools.
• Perform cable locates and protect ESVBA’s cable plant.
• Travel to required work sites.
• Operations liaison to customers through extensive communications with customer peers.
• Respond quickly to customer demands for schedules and quotes.
• Provide complete documentation of materials used during each phase of installation by external contractors.
• Provide status reports to Operations Manager as required.
• Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager to insure the orderly operation of the network.

This position will be working in the Eastern Shore Regional Jail and the job will require shift work, days, nights, weekends, holidays and required to be on call at times.

Qualifications: over the age of 21 and have obtained high school diploma or GED. Applicant must possess at a minimum the following: CNA or higher certifications.

RN: $24.88 – $38.32 per hour
LPN: $20.31 – $31.28 per hour
CNA: $16.74 – $25.78 per hour
