Information Technology Technician


Northampton County is accepting applications for two full-time IT technicians in the Information Technology Department.
The essential function of these positions is to assist in the daily operations of the department, covering all county facilities. These individuals will need to be able to operate independently and be familiar with basic systems administration, network administration, and technical support.
Successful candidates should:

• Possess diagnostic and problem-solving skills
• An understanding of multiple computer systems and networks
• Knowledge of internet security and data privacy
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to varied audiences
• Strong sense of discretion and confidentiality
• Experience with WAN/LAN networks
Bachelors’ degree in an IT related field is desired. This position requires a valid Virginia drivers license and a criminal background check.
Minimum salary for this position is $44,665.

County Attorney

  

Northampton County, located on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, seeks a full-time County Attorney.

 
The County Attorney is appointed by the Board of Supervisors and serves as legal advisor to the Board, the County Administrator, and County departments, and boards and commissions, and other officials of the County affecting County interests.

DUTIES:

The County Attorney will:
• Report directly to the Board of Supervisors and work with management-level employees to guide County policies and operations from a legal perspective. 

• Conduct legal research, provide advice and/or written opinions on questions of County, state, and federal law, most frequently in the areas of land use and zoning, property; employment; public procurement, contracts, and general local government law; 

• Attend all Board of Supervisors meetings; advise the Board of Supervisors on parliamentary procedure; prepare resolutions and ordinances for consideration and action by the Board;

• Attend other commission and board meetings as requested, such as the Planning Commission and the Wetlands Board ; 

• Advise the Board of Supervisors and other boards and commissions and appropriate County employees on actual or possible litigation; represent the County in legal matters before the Courts; bring civil suits as directed by the Board of Supervisors, defend the County in suits brought against it; retain and supervise outside litigation specialists, as appropriate, for the same;

• Draft or "approve as to form" all bonds, deeds, leases, franchises, contracts or other legal instruments to which the County is a party or in which it has an interest;

• Draft documents memorializing all special use permits and maintenance agreements for subdivision approval; 

• Work with County staff or consultants to draft ordinances to be adopted by the Board;

• Collaborate with the County School Board's legal counsel, when requested, on legal matters;

• Provide representation for the County Department of Social Services;

• Perform related tasks as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Juris Doctorate Degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association;

• Membership in the Virginia Bar.

• Experience as a practicing attorney in local government, with preference for experience in Virginia.

• Knowledge of municipal corporation law; comprehensive knowledge of local, State and Federal laws and court decisions affecting counties; •knowledge of legislation affecting Virginia’s coastal communities, such as the Chesapeake Bay Acts and its regulations;

• Knowledge of parliamentary rules of procedure; 

• Expertise in land use and employment law; 

• Litigation and trial experience; 

• Tact; good professional judgment and ethics; 

• Ability to speak and write effectively.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: $110,000 to $170,000 based upon the background and qualifications of the successful candidate. Northampton County has an attractive benefits package which includes: annual leave, holidays, and sick leave; health insurance, dental plan, life insurance, long-term disability insurance; Virginia Retirement System, and an employee assistance program.

Full-time & Part-time Opportunities Available with ESVA 9-1-1 Commission


The Eastern Shore of Virginia 9-1-1 Commission is now accepting applications for the position of 9-1-1 Communications Officer. The qualified applicant will work rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekdays, weekends, and holidays, as well as fill in shifts as needed. 9-1-1 Communications Officers are responsible for answering 9-1-1 calls, verifying the callback number and address of the emergency, determining the nature of the emergency and transferring the call or dispatching the appropriate emergency response unit as required, as well as other associated duties.

Minimum qualifications are a high school diploma or equivalent, including some experience in keyboarding or typing. Applicants must be able to speak clearly and distinctly, understand and follow detailed directions, act quickly and effectively during emergencies, and operate complex telecommunications equipment. Desirable qualifications include two years’ experience in law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical services, and/or public safety dispatching. Applicants selected for employment will be subject to a background investigation and drug screening.

DEPUTY CLERK
Northampton County Circuit Court

 

Northampton County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is in quest of a Deputy Clerk to handle land records and general office tasks as well as helping in all areas of the office, performing duties for others during absences and assisting each department during peak times; will provide a high level of knowledge, skills and abilities in office operations and procedures. This position is primarily responsible in all areas processing court documents, records and paperwork prepared with accuracy and in accordance with appropriate policies and procedures, data entry; cash handling and accounting procedures; filing; must have ability to work with the public in person and by telephone; ability to work with little direct supervision; working under deadlines. Considerable Clerk's Office, Judicial/legal experience necessary for this position. Salary range will be discussed. Only interviewed applicants will be notified of the filling of the position. Typing test with accuracy of 50 wpm is preferred.

 Description of Job: Northampton County is seeking an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney whose responsibilities will involve extensive trial work in all courts in the prosecution of felony, misdemeanor, and traffic cases, the performance of legal research, preparing and responding to motions, briefs and memorandum, and advisement of local law enforcement. The office encourages education and career development.

Emergency Medical Service Provider
(Intermediate or Paramedic preferred)

Northampton County is accepting applications for Fulltime and Part-time EMS Providers of all levels (Intermediate or Paramedic preferred) in the Emergency Medical
Services Department.

This position salary pays up to $59,675 for Intermediate and $63,835 for Paramedic all based on qualifications.

Applicant must at a minimum possess the following: Commonwealth of Virginia- Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician certification, CPR, valid VA. Driver’s License with good driving record, Emergency Vehicle Operators Course, and Hazardous Materials Awareness.
