How do I apply for a vacancy?

A separate Northampton County application is required for each announced vacancy by 5 p.m. on the deadline date. Position title and department location must be written on each application. Resumes cannot substitute the Northampton County Employment Application.

Northampton County Parks & Recreation Assistant Director

Northampton County is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Director in the Parks & Recreation Department.

Job Duties: Plan, develop, organize and direct under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director. Responsible for assisting in supervising staff, managing recreational activities and events, managing equipment and Parks facilities, and documenting and reporting on programs and events to the Director. Makes sure that programs follow organizational policies set in place by the Director.

Minimum Requirements
: Requires Associate’s degree in recreation administration, public administration, business management, or a closely related field; Requires continuous, close attention for accurate results and frequent exposure to unusual pressure; Requires five (5) years of related experience.

Salary Range: $28,954 to $46,818

Office Coordinator

Northampton County is accepting applications for a full time Office Coordinator in the Planning, Permitting and Enforcement Department
The essential function of the position is to assist the Director of Planning, Permitting and Enforcement with the timely execution of legally mandated duties. The position is responsible for coordinating administrative support for the enforcement of County Codes relevant to the Department and issuing permits. This includes preparing agendas, public notices required by law and production of minutes for groups including but not limited to Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Wetlands Board, and the Agricultural Forestal Committee.

Excellent communication skills are essential with two years’ experience in customer service. Requires high school diploma or GED, and one year of college or vocational school education in business administration or a closely related field.
Pay scale for this position is $30,691 to $49,627.

The County of Northampton is accepting part time employment applications for:

Maintenance Worker I

The Public Works Department is looking to fill a part time Maintenance Worker I position. The essential function of this position is to maintain the county grounds, including lawn mowing and litter control, and perform minor maintenance and repair work to county facilities. Starting pay rate for this position is $11.69/hr with average year-round hours of up to 25 hrs/week. Requires valid Virginia driver’s license.

Maintains County grounds, buildings and equipment. The position is responsible for assigned tasks. The position works under general supervision according to some procedures; decides how and when to complete tasks.

• Maintains grounds and/or parks, including mowing/trimming/edging, weeding, planting trees, shrubs and plants, removing trees, watering flower baskets and planters, mulching and picking up trash and debris.
• Maintains equipment of responsibility; assists with maintenance of inventory of supplies.
• Operates a variety of powered and hand operated machinery and equipment to facilitate maintenance of County grounds.
• Installs, replaces and straightens street signs.
• Performs basic building maintenance work, such as painting, scraping and cleaning.
• Performs general unskilled labor work. Assists Maintenance II&III as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
