Who can Vote in this Primary?
Virginia does not register voters to one party or another,
so all voters may vote in the upcoming primary. Virginia is an open primary
state, meaning any registered Virginia voter may vote in any primary regardless
of the party holding the election. When there is a dual primary, where both
parties are holding a primary on the same day, voters must choose a particular
party’s ballot to vote that day, since a voter can only vote in one election a
day.
